Reading Within/Against the Grain
Reading and Discussion: Touchstones
-How does this story relate you your own drawings and observations of the leaves?
-What does the professor mean when he says that "a pencil is one of the best eyes"?
-How is the observation of the fish the best scientific lesson for the author?
-Why did the professor not allow the author to use artificial aids such as a microscope?

Literature Circle Presentations
Digital Literacy
-Read this document explaining the 4 Tiers of Teacher Training in Technology.
-Quick Write: What tier are you currently in? How do you know?
-Spend 45 minutes doing something to move yourself from one tier to the next. Literally set a timer. I want this to be an intensely focused, productive time. I feel like so often we say, "I should try this..." or I should research that..." - this is your time to do whatever this or that is.
-5 minute presentation of your experience:
- An explanation of what tier you think you are most frequently in and why
- Say what you chose to do in your 45 minute inquiry and why. (what did you think about how your inquiry would impact your thinking/practice)
- Explain and/or show us how the 45 minute inquiry actually went. (what did you research, what did you try to use, what did you try to create, were you successful at it?/did you learn something else instead of what you set out to learn? etc.)
- Future implications and belief statement about digital literacy (think about "This I Believe" statements and manifestos. You don't have to write a This I Believe essay or a manifesto exactly, but use them as guidelines to think about what you want to say about your beliefs about digital literacy.
